|List of Trees 61-90||
Ulmus alata Michx.
This tree is most often seen with a short trunk and open rounded crown. Height: 40-80’ (12-24m). Leaves are in 2 rows, 3-6 cm long, often with slightly curved and unequal sides. The branches have "corky" outcroppings in the shape of "wings" – giving the characteristic look and name. This tree is also called the "wahoo" by many. Because of its poor lumber qualities, it is not a sought-after tree. However, it is often planted as a street urban landscape tree.
