A very distinct tree in its fruit and foliage, the Southern Catalpa is found throughout the south. The tree is native to the southeast but has spread westward. The wood is decay-resistant and is often used as fence posts. The tree is also home to the famous "catalpa worm" a caterpillar that favors the tree. The fruit is a long, slender capsule.
