Carya illinoinensis (Wangenh.) K. Koch
The Pecan tree is found throughout the southern region of the United States and is the state tree of Texas. It has been cultivated and hybridized to become a commercially valuable tree. The fruit is familiar to most and is a southern staple in most kitchens. The tree has compound leaves with 11-17 leaflets on each leaf. It is the largest member of our native hickories. This tree is known to hybridize with other trees in the family.
