Quercus phellos L.
This tree has a conical or rounded crown of many slender branches ending in very slender, pin-like twigs with willow-like foliage. Height: 50-80’ (15-24 m.) Leaves are 5-11 cm. long and narrowly oblong or lance-shaped, with tiny bristle-tips. This is a native eastern tree that generally grows in floodplains and along streams. Although often planted as an ornamental tree, it provides copious amounts of acorns for wildlife. On the commercial market, it is often sold as "red oak".
