Southern Red Oak

Quercus falcata Michx.

Family Fagaceae

This tree is also called the "Spanish Oak" reportedly because of its resemblance to a species found in Spain. The wood is heavy and strong but has a tendency to warp during the drying process. For that reason, it is used as a cheap construction timber and as fuel. Its range covers the eastern and southern region of the United States.
