Quercus stellata Wangenh.
Also called "iron oak", the name implies relationship to a star but it is actually more of a "cross" shaped leaf margin. The Post Oak grows in poor sandy soils. The wood from this tree provides fence posts, railroad ties, "white oak" lumber, and even fuel. Although it is a slow-growing tree, many have been planted for the shade of its broad leaves.
