List of Trees 31-60 Oak (Pin)

Family: Fagaceae

A feature of Pin Oak is the retention of its dead leaves through the winter. Upper branches point upward, middle branches point outward and bottom branches point  downward. The bark was used by some Native American tribes to make a drink for the treatment of intestinal pain. The name “pin Oak” may be from its historical use of the hard wood for pins in building construction. The wood is hard and heavy and is used in general construction and for firewood.
