Morus rubra L.
This is an eastern tree of floodplains, river valleys, and moist hillsides from southeastern Minnesota to southern Ontario and Massachusetts, south to southern Florida and Texas, and locally in southern New Mexico. It reaches to 40 ft tall. The fruit is dark purple and edible. It is a shade tolerant tree that forms root sprouts, and it often occurs as a weed in cities and other disturbed areas. It also hybridizes with the White Mulberry.
