Family Ulmaceae

The sugarberry is a medium-size tree. It grows in wet, low areas such as floodplains and bottomlands. The sugarberry does not live more than 125 or 150 years. The tree flowers in spring and fruits mature in fall. The wood is light yellow, soft, and weak which limit its use for lumber.
