List of Trees 1-30

Ginkgo biloba L.

Family Ginkgoaceae

Often referred to as a "maidenhair tree" and a "living fossil", this tree is reminiscent of the past species that once populated the earth. We often find fossilized impressions of this species. The "modern" species is planted as an ornamental tree and provides shade as well as beautiful yellow foliage in the fall of the year. Many of the trees have attained an age of one thousand years and a height of 80 feet. Extracts from the plant have been marketed for a variety of ailments but most importantly as an aid to memory.
