List of Trees 1-30 Chinaberry

Melia azedarach L.

Family: Meliaceae

It was brought to the US in the late 1700ís by a French botanist. All parts of the Chinaberry are poisonous. Eating as few as six of the berries can result in death. A native favorite of Asia, the wood is used in the manufacture of fiberboard, cabinet work, auto bodies, crates, musical instruments, matches, tool handles, and fuel wood. It has lilac flowers. The Chinaberry is used for its insecticidal anti-viral and possible anti-cancer properties.  Its berries have also been used for rosaries.
